Description

The Apollo Discovery Series White Optical Smoke Detector r features a white moulded polycarbonate housing with wind-resistant smoke inlets. Its status LEDs remain clear during normal operation and illuminate red in alarm. Inside, a printed circuit board contains the optical sensing system within a light-proof chamber and integral gauze on one side, with signal processing and communication electronics on the other.

An infrared LED, housed in a collimator, is positioned at an obtuse angle to a photo-diode equipped with a daylight-blocking filter. The LED emits a focused burst of infrared light once per second. In clear air, the angled layout and chamber baffles prevent the photo-diode from receiving light directly.
